LaFe stands for "Latino Fellowship". We are InterVarsity's ministry to Latino college students. InterVarsity traces its history to student groups at Oxford and Cambridge Universities in England in the 1870's. The Fellowship spread among campuses throughout Great Britain and Canada and in 1938 the first Intervarsity chapter in the United States began at the University of Michigan. Today, we serve more than 35,000 students and faculty on 550 campuses.
LaFe as an arm of Intervarsity began twenty-five years ago as an act of faith and out of a strong desire to truly become ethnically and culturally diverse movement that includes Latino students.
Presently, LaFe is incorporated into hundreds of InterVarsity chapters nationwide, with additional LaFe-specific chapters at UCLA, UC-Berkeley, the University of Texas at El Paso, UC-Davis, East Los Angeles College and NIU. With over forty campus ministers working with Latino students, twenty eight of whom are Latino themselves, InterVarsity is serious about equipping Latino students for present and future leadership.
